The “gringos” are gone (Norteamericano and Canadiense)
…American expats are back in the states with the knowledge that their tax
reporting to the IRS has just been completed (or rationale for delay has been
submitted) and Canadian expats are deadlined for April 30th. In addition the Canadian “Snowbirds” are
faced with another restriction revolving around their provincial health
insurance (medicare) benefits. All
provinces, except Ontario and Newfoundland, require them to actually live in their
home province for at least six months plus a day (183 days in most years) in
order to be considered a permanent resident of that province, and therefore
qualified for medicare benefits. That means actually residing in their home province
and being able to prove it, if necessary, not simply owning a residence there
and living in Mexico for eight or nine months.
Man, is it ever quite around PV!
With the Mexican two week celebration of Easter,
Semana Santa and Pasqua, held early this year along with Spring Break, it’s
been crowded. Most all business owners
tell us that this season was good for cash flow. We can agree that it was for Essence of
Cuisine Cooking School and now we are looking forward to a little more relaxed
time heading into the summer season. . A quick trip with Larry and Susan Jones this
afternoon for the 1:00 PM afternoon dining seating at the Ocean Grill proved
this with the arrival at the pier in Boca de Tomatlan of a new fiberglass panga
easily sitting 16 persons and equipped with new bright orange life vests and a new
4 cycle outboard (pictures on Facebook).
